Overview

The LX-770 is a refillable butane soldering iron kit for repairs and hobby work away from a power outlet. Change the attachments for soldering, directed hot air or hot-knife work, and adjust the gas flow for the task.

Key Advantages

Cordless Repairs

Solder Without A Power Outlet

A refillable butane tool for field repairs and hobby projects. Use refined butane supplied separately, choose the right attachment and keep the hot exhaust clear of nearby materials.

  • Butanecordless heat
  • 3 soldering tipsincluded
  • No outletrequired

Heat Shrink

Direct Heat Around The Joint

Fit the catalyst, hot blower and deflector to direct heat around tubing. Follow the tubing maker's requirements rather than using maximum flame temperature as a working target.

Hot Knife

Cut With A Heated Blade

The included hot knife adds cutting work to soldering tasks. Shut the tool off and let it cool completely before removing or changing an attachment.

Adjustable Heat

Adjust Flow. Lock For Continuous Use.

Use the gas-flow slider to adjust heat, and engage the flame lock for continuous operation. Runtime varies with the selected gas flow and operating conditions.

Will it suit the job?

Match the attachment, solder or material and heat needed for the task. The listed maximum temperatures are capability limits, not recommended joint temperatures.

Job or materialWorksWhat you need
Field wiring repairsYes, when the joint suits a soldering tipCorrect tip, suitable solder and flux, refined butane and access clear of heat-sensitive parts.
Heat-shrink tubingYes, with directed hot airInstall the catalyst and hot-blower/deflector attachments; follow the tubing maker's heat requirements.
Wood burning and hot cuttingYes, with suitable attachmentUse the appropriate tip or hot knife; allow full cooling before changing attachments.
Lead-free solderRequires suitable alloy, tip and jointNo universal gas-slider setting is verified; choose for joint size and solder requirements.
Temperature-sensitive PCB workApplication dependentThere is no verified numeric temperature setpoint or ESD-safe rating; choose a controlled station where those are required.
Propane or unrefined fuelNoUse butane refined at least three times; fuel is supplied separately.
Work beside flammable vaporsNoThe manual identifies pressurized flammable gas and hot components; do not use near ignition hazards.

Questions

Can I solder wiring away from an electrical outlet?

Yes. LX-770 uses refillable butane rather than mains power; use a suitable soldering tip, solder and flux for the joint.

Can it shrink heat-shrink tubing?

Yes. Use the catalyst with the hot-blower and deflector attachments, and follow the tubing maker's heat instructions.

Can I use it for wood burning?

Yes, with an appropriate heated attachment and material. Let the tool cool fully before changing tips.

Does the kit include a hot knife for cutting?

Yes. The hot knife is one of the attachments illustrated in the manual; change it only after the tool has cooled completely.

Is it a guaranteed replacement for an ESD-safe soldering station?

No. The available specifications do not verify ESD-safe construction or a numeric regulated setpoint, so use a verified station when your components require those controls.

Does it come filled with butane?

No. Buy refined butane separately; the manual requires fuel refined at least three times.

Do I have to hold the ignition trigger the whole time?

No. After ignition, the continuous flame lock can maintain operation; switch it off to extinguish the tool.

How does LX-770 compare with LX-771?

LX-770 has a straight iron-style body. LX-771 has a pistol-style body and base stand. Both use refillable butane and accept the named Lexivon attachment sets; choose the body format that suits your handling needs.
