Overview

LX-181 is a 1/4-inch drive torque wrench for small clockwise fasteners from 20 to 200 in-lb (2.26-22.6 Nm). Its inch-pound scale suits small mechanical settings when the equipment specification fits; it does not measure left-hand tightening torque.

Key Advantages

Small Fasteners

Inch-Pound Settings For Small Fasteners

Use the 1/4-inch drive for clockwise settings from 20 to 200 in-lb. Match the small fastener's specified torque, then stop at the first felt or audible click.

Check The Unit Before Tightening

Use the inch-pound or Nm scale for the equipment specification. Each micrometer increment represents 1 in-lb, approximately 0.113 Nm.

Return To The Minimum Setting

Store the wrench in a clean, dry place at 20 in-lb, with zero on the micrometer. Never turn the handle below the minimum.

Wrench, Case And Calibration Certificate

The kit contains the wrench, hard storage case and calibration certificate. Choose the correctly sized socket or bit attachment separately.

Will it fit the job?

Match the required torque, measurement direction, square drive and working space to the equipment specification.

Job or attachmentWorksWhat to check
Bicycle and small mechanical fastenersYes, when specification fitsClockwise tightening within 20-200 in-lb; follow the equipment maker's torque value.
1/4-inch drive socketsYesMatch the socket opening to the fastener and allow space for the wrench.
3/8-inch drive socketsNo direct fitMatch the square drive rather than the socket opening size.
Fasteners below 20 in-lbNoUse a lower-range torque tool.
Fasteners above 200 in-lbNoUse a higher-range torque tool.
Left-hand threaded fastenersNo calibrated reverse tighteningReversible ratchet does not provide calibrated counterclockwise measurement.
Stuck fasteners and added leverageNoDo not use as a breaker bar or add leverage devices.

Questions

Can I use it for bicycle assembly and repairs?

For bicycle work, check the part maker's value against 20-200 in-lb (2.26-22.6 Nm). LX-181 suits clockwise fasteners within that interval, with a correctly fitted 1/4-inch drive attachment; it cannot cover every small bicycle bolt or left-hand thread.

Can it tighten small motorcycle fittings?

For small motorcycle fittings, match the Torx or other attachment to the actual fastener and the 1/4-inch drive. The service-manual setting must fall within 20-200 in-lb and tighten clockwise; motorcycle brand alone does not establish fit.

Can I use it for valve covers or other small engine fasteners?

Valve-cover and small-engine work is conditional on the specified torque and access. Read the engine procedure, distinguish in-lb from ft-lb, and use LX-181 only for clockwise settings of 20-200 in-lb; it supplies no engine-specific bolt sequence.

Will my 3/8-inch drive sockets fit directly?

A 3/8-inch drive socket does not connect directly to LX-181's 1/4-inch square drive. This is the recess at the back of the socket, separate from the opening that grips the bolt. Choose a matching attachment for the small drive.

Can I tighten fasteners below 20 in-lb?

The calibrated range begins at 20 in-lb, or 2.26 Nm. A bicycle or other small part specified below that minimum needs a different torque tool; turning the handle lower does not create a lower calibrated measuring range.

Can it measure torque on left-hand threaded fasteners?

LX-181 cannot provide calibrated left-hand tightening. Its selector changes ratcheting direction, while torque measurement is limited to clockwise. For bicycle components with a left-hand thread, choose a model with reverse measurement.

Does it use in-lb and Nm markings?

LX-181 carries inch-pound and Nm markings: 20-200 in-lb equals the 2.26-22.6 Nm range. Match the service-manual unit before setting the handle. A value stated in foot-pounds cannot be copied unchanged onto this inch-pound scale.

How does LX-181 compare with LX-180?

LX-181 reaches 200 in-lb with a 1/4-inch drive but measures only clockwise. LX-180 uses the same drive, starts lower at 10 in-lb, tops out at 150 in-lb and measures both ways. Choose LX-181 for the higher inch-pound ceiling when clockwise measurement fits.
